Acts 8:4 – Disciple Maker – Everyone

Now those who were scattered went about preaching the word. (Acts 8:4 ESV)

When Jesus first met his disciples, he told them they would be “fishers of men” (Matthew 4:18-19). Before he left earth, he told them to “make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:18-20).

It’s easy to think these commands were just for those special few—the twelve disciples or today’s pastors and missionaries. “That’s not my job,” we might think. “I’m not trained for that.”

But Acts 8 shows us something surprising.

A big wave of trouble hit the early church in Jerusalem. People were being persecuted for their faith. Many Christians had to run away to stay safe.

Here’s the key part: When these regular believers scattered, they didn’t hide their faith. They “went about preaching the word” (Acts 8:4).

Who were these people? Not the famous twelve disciples—they stayed in Jerusalem (Acts 8:1). These were ordinary believers. Regular folks with jobs and families. People just like you and me.

They didn’t wait for the “professionals.” They didn’t say, “I’ll leave that to the experts.” They simply shared what they knew about Jesus wherever they went.

This is how the church grew so fast. Everyone took part. Everyone shared the good news.

The task of helping others follow Jesus was never meant just for a special few. It’s what every follower of Jesus is called to do.

So the question isn’t whether you should help others know and follow Jesus. The question is: Who are you helping right now?
