What To Do When Your World Falls Apart

Have you ever sat alone and felt overwhelmingly inadequate? I have.

My first business was failing. I didn’t have a job. And to make matters worse, both my wife and newborn daughter were sick. Just like that, two things I’d counted on—health and wealth—crumbled like ancient pillars. In that moment, everything I’d relied on seemed to collapse.

Here in America, we often build our lives on the pillars of health and wealth. We see these as proof that we’re winning, that we’re safe and secure. But what happens when they falter? What happens when the very things we’ve built our identity around start to crack?

In Solomon’s Temple, there stood two massive bronze pillars at the entrance—Jachin and Boaz. These weren’t just architectural features. At thirty-five feet tall and eighteen feet around, these pillars made a statement. Jachin meant “He establishes” and Boaz meant “In Him is strength.” These weren’t just clever names. They were declarations of truth: God establishes, and in Him alone is our strength.

I learned this lesson the hard way. When my business crashed and my family’s health faltered, I discovered something profound: the things I thought made me strong were actually making me weak. Why? Because I’d placed my hope in things that could fail rather than the One who never fails.

Here’s the truth: your circumstances might change, but God’s character never does. The same God who established Solomon’s Temple wants to establish you. The same strength that held up those ancient pillars can hold you up today.

So what do you do when your world falls apart?

1. Acknowledge where you’ve placed your trust
2. Shift your foundation to the only One who never changes
3. Let your circumstances drive you closer to God, not further away

Remember, we’re blessed to be blessings. Sometimes our greatest trials become our greatest testimonies. Just as those ancient pillars stood as witnesses to God’s strength, your life can become a testament to His faithfulness.

Today, you might feel like everything’s crumbling. But take heart—God specializes in building beauty from broken things. As Ecclesiastes 3:11 reminds us, “He has made everything beautiful in its time.”
