What Fruit Are You Sowing?

Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.

Galatians 6:7-8 ESV

My kids and I were having a conversation about fruit last night on the way home from church.

Faith wanted to know what I meant by “fruit.” I explained to her that it is what comes out of us- our words and our actions; that no matter what we might claim, our actions reveal the nature and character of the seed we are planting.

I knew someone that would proclaim Jesus on FB, but no one wanted to be around him because of his attitude and actions. He was producing rotten fruit, and it came back to him.

Some might call this karma, but it’s God’s law of reaping and sowing. As sure as the law of gravity will hold you to earth, you will reap what seed you are sowing.

If you sow seeds of encouragement, love, peace, kindness, forgiveness- that fruit comes back to you.

But, if you are sowing greed, malice, division, anger, well then the fruit that you get back is greed, malice, division and anger. Then you wonder why no one wants to be around you.

You are known by your fruit, no matter what you proclaim. What seed are you sowing and what fruit are you producing?

It’s never too late to sow good seed. Father, help your children to sow good seeds and produce righteous fruit for your kingdom, in Jesus’ name. CK
