The Christian Heart

For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.

Romans 8:13-14 ESV

I recently went on a run in when it was 27 degrees outside.

I got a lot of “You’re crazy lady” looks; but as I said before and I’ll say it again- a runner runs no matter what the circumstances.

She runs when it’s hot and when it’s cold. She runs when it’s rainy and when it’s sunny. She runs when she’s sick and when she’s healthy and she always runs through the pain.

You won’t see the runner walking up the hill, she runs; and she doesn’t stop and rest at the stop light, she runs in place.

The greatest way you can tell a true runner, one who lives and breathes running, is inside- her cardiovascular system.

A runner’s bp is 120/60, cholesterol is 143 and her resting heart rate is 40-50 beats a minute.

Likewise, a Christian isn’t one outwardly in the going to church and doing of good deeds, but is one inwardly where the Spirit of God has changed her heart and she lives by the standards of the word, not the world.

The Christian is more forgiving, more giving, and more generous.

The Christian doesn’t live according to the sinful nature, but her heart has changed, and she lives by the Spirit and has pierced the flesh.

Anyone can act like a Christian, but you cannot fake a heart condition.

Father, help us to live according to the promptings of the Holy Spirit and to crucify and put to death our flesh, in Jesus’ name. #runyourrace CK
