Romans 8:18 — Worth It All

Have you ever wondered if following Jesus is worth the cost?

Paul didn’t just wonder. He lived the question. Here’s what he concluded in Romans 8:18:

“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.”

These weren’t empty words from an ivory tower. Paul wrote them while knowing real suffering:

• Beaten and imprisoned
• Hungry and thirsty
• Shipwrecked and snake-bitten
• Rejected and abandoned

Yet he said, “Not worthy to be compared.”

Think about that. All his pain didn’t even register on the scale when weighed against future glory.

But here’s our problem: We often put our hope in the wrong places.

Romans 8:18 Puts Our Hope in the Right Place

We hope in comfort, but Jesus promised trouble: “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)

We hope in politicians, but they’re just people – flawed like us.

We hope in financial security, but markets crash.

We hope in relationships, but people can disappoint.

We hope in health, but bodies break down.

Paul points us to a better hope. A certain hope. An eternal hope.

The glory coming for God’s people will make our worst suffering feel like a brief morning shadow. Every tear wiped away. Every wrong made right. Every pain redeemed.

How do we hold onto this hope?

1. Fix your eyes on Jesus, not circumstances
2. Meditate daily on God’s promises
3. Remember: your suffering isn’t meaningless – it’s preparing you for glory
4. Connect with other believers who remind you of eternal truth

One day, we’ll look back and say with absolute certainty: “It was worth it all.”
