Hide and Seek With God

“Where are you?”

These words echo through history. God’s first recorded question to humanity wasn’t a scolding. It wasn’t an accusation.

It was an invitation to come out of hiding.

“But the Lord God called to the man and said to him, ‘Where are you?'”
Genesis 3:9

Isn’t it strange? The all-knowing Creator asked a question He already knew the answer to. He knew exactly where Adam was hiding among those garden trees. Yet He called out anyway.

Because that’s who God is. The Great Pursuer.

We often think following God is about our search for Him. We climb spiritual mountains, seeking mystical encounters. We strain and strive, thinking He’s playing hard to get.

Jesus said, “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them” (John 6:44).

Think about that. Before you took your first step toward God, He was drawing you closer.

“My yoke is easy and my burden is light,” Jesus promised (Matthew 11:28-30).

This doesn’t mean the Christian life is without challenges – Paul guarantees we’ll face persecution (2 Timothy 3:12).

But the actual pursuit of God? That’s different.

Because He’s doing the pursuing.

The Bible isn’t just a religious textbook. It’s a love story of God chasing human hearts:

• He pursued Adam in the garden
• He pursued Israel through the wilderness
• He pursued David in the caves
• He pursues you today
• God knows exactly how you’re wired. What makes you tick. What makes your heart come alive. And He uses that knowledge to draw you closer.

Often, we’re like children playing hide and seek who pick obvious hiding spots. We think we’re well-hidden, while the seeker (God) can see us clearly all along.

Today, where are you hiding from God? Can you hear Him calling, “Where are you?”
