Psalm 121:1-3 – Go To Jesus First

Daily Devotional Bible Verses

I lift up my eyes to the hills.
From where does my help come?
My help comes from the LORD,
who made heaven and earth.
He will not let your foot be moved;
he who keeps you will not slumber. (Psalm 121:1-3 ESV)

When I was a child, you only went to the doctor as a last resort. We didn’t have any kind of medical insurance, and so I only went to the doctor if I tried every other remedy first. It seems like today, people run to the doctor at the first sign of a sniffle, seeking help. Now, I’m not to telling you to not seek help, but there is another Great Physician who would love for you to run to Him first.

I see this all the time. People will run to everyone seeking help except to God; and then when no one else can help you, He becomes your last resort. People with no insurance will try every other remedy for pain relief first, and after they fall into a pit of despair, then they cry out to God. He answers because He is a good, good God, but why not go to Him first and save yourself some unwanted pain? Why not go through the fire with Him?

When the first sign of a sniffle appears, run to Him. When you see a storm approaching, run to Him. Don’t wait until you are in the midst of despair to call on Him for help. Stay under His watchful umbrella of protection.

Father, let us always keep you as our first Helper, in Jesus’ mighty name. CK
