Philippians 3:12-14 – Who He Is, Not Who We Are

Daily Devotional Bible Verses

“Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:12-14 ESV)

Christianity may be the hardest to accept because the world would have us believe that it doesn’t make sense. How could Jesus love those who murder, steal, rape, lie, etc.? How could forgiveness at the last second of life make up for a life of siding with the devil? Why should I love someone that has hurt me so much? How can I forgive someone who hasn’t even apologized? How can Jesus love me, an imperfect sinner?

The devil would have you believe that you are not worthy to step into God’s presence; that your past has brought you to a place where you can’t turn back and face God, that you have nowhere to go but back to the same thing because that’s what you deserve. The devil is a liar.

God doesn’t love us because we’re perfect. He didn’t send Jesus to die for our sins because we could ever be perfect. He did it because HIS love and actions are unconditional. He is God and God is love. Whether we’ve lived life as a sinner or a saint, we can all move forward with Jesus Christ and look forward to a victorious future and eternity.
