Matthew 16:13-15 – Jesus, Upon Whom History is Hinged

Daily Devotional Bible Verse

Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” And they said, “Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” (Matthew 16:13-15 ESV)

Jesus of Nazareth is a man completely unavoidable, one upon whom all of history is hinged. Whether designated BC, BCE, CE or AD, all of man’s dating systems are split by the life of Jesus Christ. More books have been written, and more songs sung about this man than any other. He is perennially popular in the media, making appearances in cartoons, movies and countless documentaries. In short, whether a Christian or not, it seems everyone has something to say about Jesus.

2 Chronicles 7:1 – His Wrath Diverted

Daily Devotions Bible Verse

As soon as Solomon finished his prayer, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the Lord filled the temple. (2 Chronicles 7:1 ESV)

The Temple, the dwelling place of the Lord, was being consecrated by king Solomon, the wisest man of his day. At the end of his prayer, and in the presence of the people of Israel, fire rushed from heaven engulfing the offering and sacrifices in heavenly flame. This display of power awed every person present and sent them to their faces, bowing before the mighty one of Israel. This scene would echo again, some thousand years later, as Jesus hung on the cross, for “it was the will of the Lord to crush him,” (Isaiah 53:10).

Site Issues

We have been experiencing some sitewide issues due to our hosting provider.  We have been down 2 times in the last week for multiple hours, but have managed to get back up an running even though I, Ryan, work a full-time job.  We had planned to move to a more reliable hosting provider in the future, but it seems that it needs to happen sooner than later.  Of course, this will cost more.  Please pray about giving a financial gift and helping us make the move faster to a more reliable host.  You can easily do this here with a credit card.
Since writing the top part of this post, the website has been down for over 12 hours.  Obviously we are up and running now, but that didn’t happen till after 3 am this morning.  Needless to say, it was a long night.  But, we are up and running and I would like to thank our new hosting provider,, for their help in moving our site over and their great customer service.  We shouldn’t experience any more outages and the website should run much faster.  We will start back with our regularly scheduled devotions on Monday.
