“Have you never read in the Scriptures…”

Matthew 21:42

In the New Testament, people would often come to Jesus with spiritual questions and, in fact, the Pharisees would even try to challenge Jesus on his teachings.

For example, some of these questions and challenges can be found here:  Matthew 21:14-16; Mark 2:23-28; Luke 18:18-20.

Many times Jesus would respond to these people by reciting Scripture or saying something like “Have you never read in the Scriptures?”.

Studying the Scriptures is clearly something Jesus expects us to do.

He did it. Jesus often quoted verses in the responses he gave to people.

Is this something we can do? Have we studied the Scriptures enough to be able to recall important verses from memory?

If your answer is yes, that’s fantastic! Keep up the good work.

If not, then may you be encouraged to study the Bible with fresh vigor. The Bible is full of lessons that God is just waiting for us to learn.

Ask God to help you memorize verses; having an arsenal of spiritual truths memorized can help us in our day to day battles, and vastly improve our Christian walk.
