Hebrews 12:28-29 – Christian Thanksgiving: Unshakable Kingdom

Daily Devotional Bible Verse

Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire. (Hebrews 12:28-29 ESV)

Buildings eventually crumble, countries rise and fall; nothing in this world is permanent and it will one day come to an end. As Christians, however, we have something that will never come to end; we have the kingdom of God. Let us be thankful for this! Let us be thankful that whether we live or die, we have an inheritance in a kingdom to come (Hebrews 13:14). Let us be thankful that this kingdom was designed by the great designer, God himself (Hebrews 11:10). Because of all of these truths, we can be thankful for a kingdom that cannot be shaken (Hebrews 12:28). The kingdom of God will always be, and no ruler or natural disaster can destroy it. Think about this in relation to all the turmoil that is happening in the world with wars, economic problems, and natural disasters.

The response to this amazing truth is one of worship. Let us worship with reverence and awe because our God is a consuming fire. Our God is bigger than any skyscraper touching the tip of the sky. Our God is more powerful than the mightiest ruler. Our kingdom is ruled by the King of kings and Lord of lords. Our temporary home may be shaking under us right now, but our soon to be permanent home is standing as firm as ever.

Be thankful to God today for his unshakable kingdom.
