Ephesians 2:10 – We Are God’s Symphony

Daily Devotional Bible Verse

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. (Ephesians 2:10 ESV)

If God is an artist, we are his artwork. If he is a musician, we are his symphony. If he is a sculptor—well, you get the point. At first reading, your theological-heresy-detector may be going off, leading you to think we’re making far too much of Christians, and far too little of Christ. After all, the greatest man who ever lived (Matthew 11:11) said that Jesus must become greater, and he must become less (John 3:30). So, back to the point, can we humbly and truly say things like, “We are God’s symphony”?

Answer: Yes. And, in fact, we should.

Now, if someone is raving about the brilliance and beauty of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, does it produce in you feelings of awe and reverence for the symphony itself, or for it’s composer? Consider this verse: “For Jesus has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses—as much more glory as the builder of a house has more honor than the house itself” (Hebrews 3:3).

As Christians, when we understand and appreciate the beauty of who we truly are “by grace…through faith” (Ephesians 2:8), we are moved to worship God as Ultimate Creator. We are freed to respond to the truth of God’s work in our lives, and this is right worship (John 4). Understand this, today, brother or sister: in Christ, you are beautiful like a symphony. When we understand this about ourselves, we are led to marvel at the Great Artist who has made us so.

Now, with this new understanding, walk in the good works the Artist has prepared for you today.
