James 2:26 – A Parable of Faith and Works

Daily Devotional Bible Verse

For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead. (James 2:26 ESV)

“An old Scotsman operated a little rowboat for transporting passengers. One day a passenger noticed that the good old man had carved on one oar the word “Faith,” and on the other oar the word “Works.” Curiosity led him to ask the meaning of this. The old man, being a well-balanced Christian and glad of the opportunity for testimony, said, “I will show you.”

Psalm 133:1 – One Year Later

Daily Devotional Bible Verse

Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity! (Psalm 133:1 ESV)

From Ryan,

Today is the one year anniversary of shortdailydevotions.com. Praise the Lord! It was one year ago that I put up a post announcing to the world that “We are coming soon, so get ready.”  God has worked through this site and myself during this past year. From the beginning, I realized I couldn’t do this on my own and needed help and have found two great writers to do so. We also have multiple guest writers that share with us what God is teaching them through His word.

Our site continues to grow with over 200 devotions written this past year and many more to come. Every month our site also receives more and more new visitors. The same can be said of our devotional email list. We are now sending out over 9,000 devotional emails per month!

As I look back at all that has happened in the past year: having a child, getting a new job, and having no time to spare, I see how God has placed people in my life to help with shortdailydevotions.com and you, the reader.

John 5:18 – False Accusations

Daily Devotional Bible Verse

This was why the Jews were seeking all the more to kill him, because not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God. (John 5:18 ESV)

This is an astounding text. The most humble man to ever walk this earth was brutally murdered for the accusation of blasphemous pride! So while a person may walk in Christlike humility, he or she may still be accused of arrogance. This misconception of arrogance generally stems from Christianity’s belief in the exclusivity of Jesus for salvation (John 14:6) and Christians living, thinking, and speaking in light of that truth.
