Don’t Forget The Old Testament

Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning with this Scripture he told him the good news about Jesus.

Acts 8:35 ESV

God brings Philip across the path of a man who is confused about a portion scripture he is reading.

He then proceeds to ask Philip what it means and we see then that Philip begins with scripture and tells him the good news about Jesus.

Philip did not use John 3:16, because they did not have the New Testament. Phillip did not lead him down the Romans road.

Philip used the Old Testament to share the good news of Jesus.

The New Testament is often easier to apply to our lives.

Because of this, we often spend more time in it, even though it is smaller than the Old Testament.

When Jesus taught from scripture it was from the Old Testament (Luke 24:27).

Many of the authors in the New Testament quote the Old Testament (1 Corinthians 9:8-9).

As we begin to read the Old Testament more regularly, we will began to understand where much of the New Testament comes from.

We will also begin to understand the mindset of those who Jesus came to declare himself the Messiah to.

Take up a personal challenge to start reading the Old Testament more and look for the good news of Jesus in it.

Look for the good news of Jesus in the Old Testament today.
