1 John 1:7 – The Blood Connection

Daily Devotional Bible Verse

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. (1 John 1:7)

“I’m Samantha,” she said as she approached my mother and me with a smile. We both must have looked puzzled because she added, “Lisa’s daughter.” “Well, of course you are!” I replied, immediately seeing the resemblance to her mother. Lisa is the daughter of my first cousin who died several years ago, and sadly, we had lost touch. Though I had never met Samantha, I was instantly filled with a warmth of love for her.

This same scenario played itself out several times during the day. You see, we were attending the funeral of my dear aunt, Mom’s sister. Though it was a sad occasion, we enjoyed reconnecting with relatives we hadn’t seen in months, even years. Later I marveled at the feeling of seeing those kinfolks. In the grand scheme of things, I hardly know them. I know nothing of their habits, their friends, their jobs….and yet, I took great joy in seeing and visiting with each one. Why do you suppose that is? I believe it’s the “blood connection.”

BLOOD…….God has always required it. It was the difference between Cain and Abel. It was what kept the Hebrew babies alive during the Passover. It is what saves our souls. In Leviticus we read, “For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it for you on the altar to make atonement for your soul, for it is the blood that makes atonement by the life.”

If family blood can create such a strong connection, then the sacrifice of the blood of Christ should stop us in our tracks. He WILLINGLY shed it for you and for me. What a connection!!

One of my favorite scriptures is 1 Peter 1: 18-19, “For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed…..but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.”

The blood of Christ…..the PRECIOUS blood of Christ! We have no greater connection than that! Amen! CJ
