Revelations 21:4 – Misery is Optional

Daily Devotional Bible Verse

‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” (Revelations 21:4 NIV)

Today in his sermon our pastor called people who do this “Wounded Healers.” He said our wounds should make us better, not bitter.

I once read a book called Charlie’s Victory. It is a true story, written by Charlie and Lucy Wedemeyer. They were highschool sweethearts who married, had two children, and were living the American dream when Charlie was diagnosed at age 30 with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). The prognosis was that he had 2, maybe 3 years, to live. Charlie died in 2010, 34 years after his diagnosis!

Isaiah 51:1 – Look To The Rock

Daily Devotional Bible Verse

“Listen to me, you who pursue righteousness, you who seek the LORD: look to the rock from which you were hewn, and to the quarry from which you were dug. (Isaiah 51:1 ESV)

My husband has spent the majority of his adult life as a coach. He has mentored many, many athletes through football, baseball, basketball, and track. He also spent most of his younger years as an active participant in each of these sports. I guess this gives you some insight into the fact that I am married to a “man’s man.”

Not only is he a gifted athlete and coach, but he is also large in stature. He’s a pretty hefty guy who could send shivers up and down the spine of an all-you-can-eat buffet manager.

We have been married almost 47 years, and I consider him to be my rock. I know he’s always there to catch me if I fall. Well, he is “my rock” after the first 15 minutes of a crisis.

Let me explain. For some reason known only to God,

Psalm 139:13-14 – You Are Wonderfully Made

Daily Devotional Bible Verses

For you formed my inward parts;
you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Wonderful are your works;
my soul knows it very well. (Psalm 139:13-14 ESV)

What is it about your personal self that you would change if you could? All of us have something; that one thing which, if we could re-do, would make us SO much happier! For me, it’s my hair. Apparently my sweet Aunt Mary, from whom I received one of my names, also gifted me with her baby-fine hair!

For those of you who have “good” hair, let me explain. Baby fine hair is soft, silky, and STRAIGHT! It can be curled, but it takes MUCH effort, time, and hair product to do so. Baby fine hair can be combed into almost any style you like, and will look great in that style……for about half an hour! Then it falls flat. On a bright, sunshine-y day, with just exactly the right amount of non-humidity, it might last for a couple of hours!

I say all that to say this: So many of us are dissatisfied with something about ourselves. Some things can be changed (like my weight problem), and others are here to stay (like my hair). We just have to learn how to live with and deal with them.

I prefer to believe that there is a divine design to our complete selves. It is no accident when
