Psalm 1:1 – The Counsel Of The Wicked

Daily Devotional Bible Verse

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; (Psalm 1:1 ESV)

One can easily read the first verse of Psalm 1 and think they have it figured out. Don’t ask a non-Christian for moral advice, simple right? Yes that is true, but there can be more to it than mere moral advice. Our morals have an impact on many, if not all, of our daily decisions throughout our life. What we must understand as we move through life then, is that if one is not a follower of Christ they are his enemy (Romans 5:8) and a slave to sin (John 8:34). With that in mind, the next question that begs asking is who do we idolize? Continue Reading →

Isaiah 43:11 – Who Is Your Savior?

Daily Devotional Bible Verse

I, I am the LORD, and besides me there is no savior. Isaiah 43:11 ESV

As Americans, we have experienced historic elections as many of those who voted were not happy with the country’s direction. The old guard is voted out as the new is voted in with much joy. We vote in the hope that the government will save us from our problems. We hope that we will get jobs, be able to afford a house, become debt free, or just live a more comfortable life when our candidate wins. These politicians can in turn become our saviors. Acts 23:5 – Kind Words For Your Rulers

Daily Devotional Bible Verse

And Paul said, “I did not know, brothers, that he was the high priest, for it is written, ‘You shall not speak evil of a ruler of your people.’” Acts 23:5

The high priest just had Paul slapped in the face for sharing the Gospel. Paul then insults the high priest, which most of us probably would do if we weren’t too afraid. After this he is told he insulted the high priest and we have Acts 23:5. This can be a hard verse to swallow; we aren’t supposed to speak evil of a ruler. But what if we don’t agree? Too bad, do not speak evil of a ruler. A ruler can refer to your boss, supervisor, elected official, the president, maybe some other leader in your life. But why shouldn’t we speak evil of a ruler? Mark 1:6 – It’s the Message, not the Messenger.

Daily Devotional Bible Verse

Now John was clothed with camel’s hair and wore a leather belt around his waist and ate locusts and wild honey. (Mark 1:6 ESV)

From Ryan:

A friend of mine was recently telling me of the hard time he had concentrating on a DVD series of preaching he was watching. It wasn’t because the teacher was bad and it wasn’t because it was wrong teaching. It was because of what the teacher was wearing and his surroundings. The teacher was dressed in an old suit and his surroundings looked like an older church building. My friend comes from a church where the pastor dresses hip and the church has big screens and cool lights. He ended up enjoying the DVD series, but Continue Reading →

Exodus 4:10-12 – Unlikely Leaders

Daily Devotional Bible Verse

But Moses said to the Lord, “Oh, my Lord, I am not eloquent, either in the past or since you have spoken to your servant, but I am slow of speech and of tongue.” Then the Lord said to him, “Who has made man’s mouth? Who makes him mute, or deaf, or seeing, or blind? Is it not I, the Lord? Now therefore go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall speak.” (Exodus 4:10-12 ESV)

Moses was one of the Bible’s most noted leaders. He led the Israelites from slavery in Egypt and then served competently as a priestly leader. He taught them what was God’s will, prayed for them, and even plead their case before God. We need more men like him in the church. But is it possible that they are already here but have never gotten a chance? Moses was not a gifted speaker and had difficulty trusting God when he told him he would lead the Israelites. If Moses were alive today, who would he look like in the church? Would he be the person sitting next to you who doesn’t appear to have a “leadership bone” in his body? In fact, could it be you? Joshua 1:5 – Your Verse Five

Daily Devotional Bible Verse

No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life. Just as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you or forsake you.(Joshua 1:5 ESV)

Joshua 1:1-9 is one of the most often quoted, cited, and even commercialized of Old Testament texts; specifically verses six through nine. Here we find the Lord encouraging and emboldening Israel’s new leader using powerful phrases like, “Be strong and courageous,” and that he would “have good success wherever” he went. Joshua was to be a great man in Israel, blessed by God and exalted before the people (Joshua 3:7). But when we consider a man or woman of God’s prestige we should never forget about their verse five!

Here’s what we mean: Joshua’s greatness, like Moses’ before him, was to be a direct result of God’s constant presence. Continue Reading →
